Truly an old soul I have been told, love the classics when it comes to music, movies. Actually look forward to going to the barbershop in my neighborhood to hear the stories ( and lies) that eventually get told.

...At Last

Well as you all know, it’s ON this Sunday. Yes you guessed it, Superbowl time.

The Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots will meet in Jacksonville this Sunday to go head to head in the 39th Annual Superbowl. And as you know, my ass will be glued to the tube for those three hours. Some of my buddies may end up coming through and we watch the game at the tip. We may go out to a sports bar somewhere and watch it and have a few beers, not too sure just yet.

I can hardly wait. Now I know that statistically speaking and all the odds say that the Pats are heavily favored to win their third championship in four years and I can agree with that. Although it would be great to see Donovan McNabb and the Eagles win one for Philly. I will be pulling for Philly, but if I had to bet money on it, I would put my money on Tom Brady and his crew. I was actually reading an article about them and the columnist said that Bill Belichick and his coaching staff are formulating what some in the NFL are deeming the “ideal” franchise and the reasoning behind this was the fact that they had a very unselfish group of players that understood what team play actually meant.

They did a comparison between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots which outlined why the Colts never make it to the big game. Basically it boils down to salary caps and money. Payton Manning has a contract worth over 100 million and anyone that watched anything even remotely related to football knows about the spectacular season HE had as a quarterback. The article talked about how the Colts topped out their salary cap by getting all the best offensive weapons and paying the big bucks for them…..not a bad idea, until you realize that defense wins championships. So until Tony Dungy and staff decide to let go some of those high paid receivers and offensive linemen and pick up some decent defensive players and a secondary that can actually stop any other team with a decent throwing game, they will never see the big game. The reason for the Pats success is that they have team players that realize getting the ring is much more important than an outrageous bank account. The article highlighted players like Tedy Bruschi, Tom Brady, Richard Seymour, Adam Vinatieri, and a host of other superstars for their willingness to sacrifice cash for a winning team. This is a great philosophy in my opinion.

Like I said earlier, I would love to see The Eagles soar in Super Bowl 39, especially after the 3 consecutive losses in the NFC championship games, but I just think that New England is too well rounded as a team. The Eagles are good no doubt and have one helluva defensive core with some of the best linebackers and a secondary that will wreak havoc on unsuspecting wide receivers and quarterbacks, but I just don’t think it will happen.

…man, I could go on about this for hours, but I will spare you all my predictions and random azz thoughts and leave you guys with this….

GO EAGLES.
